Informed Clear

Know applicant risk before verifying income

What is Informed Clear?

Informed Clear is a smarter way to know who to trust before you verify anyone’s income. Instead of running every applicant through the same time-consuming, costly verification process, Clear gives you a quick read on risk right at the start, so you can skip the extra steps for applicants you can already trust and focus your attention where it actually matters.

Think of it as a first read on every applicant, powered by real lending outcomes from across the industry. It doesn’t replace your underwriting policy. It makes it smarter, helping you move trustworthy applicants through faster while catching the ones worth a second look before you fund the loan.

Challenge

Income verification forces lenders into a costly balancing act. The vast majority of applicants — roughly 95% — tell the truth, yet blanket verification adds friction and abandonment for good borrowers and costs lenders millions in unnecessary Work Number pulls. At the same time, skipping verification without a reliable signal leaves the book exposed: misrepresentation drives an estimated $6 billion in annual credit losses industry-wide. Lenders need a way to tell safe applicants from risky ones before committing verification spend, but no single lender has enough outcome data on its own to build that signal reliably.

Solution

Informed Clear solves this by scoring applicants on stated data alone — income, employer, occupation, and housing — before any bureau pull or document request. The score is trained on cross-lender outcomes no single lender sees alone, drawing on application and payroll data from Informed’s network of 70+ U.S. lenders, more than 9 million bank statements, and more than 10 million authentic paystubs.

In practice, this segments applicants into three groups. Roughly 30% score low risk and can bypass income verification entirely. About 65% proceed through the lender’s existing verification waterfall unchanged. About 5% score high risk and warrant added scrutiny, a discount, or a route to manual review. This lets lenders cut verification costs and friction on trustworthy applicants while concentrating scrutiny where it actually pays off.
